Snacks
CURRENT SNACK SCHEDULE (PDF)
Each family will be responsible for providing a week's worth of snacks for their child's class on a rotating basis several times during the year. The 4-Day Class prepares their snack on a daily basis. The purpose of the daily snack is not only for an energy booster but to expose the children to different types of foods. The snacks should be nutritious and help the children to develop good eating habits.
Snacks need not be elaborate. Please include enough snack and beverage for the teachers and aides.
Pay close attention to food allergies. Check with the teacher or parent if you have questions. Teachers occasionally plan to do cooking or have special snacks.* You can be as creative as you want. Some classes are open to trying new foods and some are not. The children like to help with the snack (i.e., spread peanut butter or mix fruit in vanilla (not plain!) yogurt, etc.). Please confer with the teacher(s) on this. Remember, for the 2s: No carrots, celery, nuts, popcorn, raisins, or other things they may choke on. Grapes should be cut up and apples should be peeled.
All classes enjoy fruit, graham crackers, mini-bagels and muffins, pretzels, cheese, crackers, cream cheese, peanut butter, breads (e.g., banana, zucchini, pumpkin, etc.), trail or cereal mixes, and yogurt. So there is a lot to choose from!
Please stay away from candy and chocolate. Also avoid Hi-C and other drinks with high sugar content. Juicy Juice, water and milk are good choices. A 64-ounce container is needed for each day of snack.
Snack Procedure:
Consult with the teacher concerning any special events or needs. Develop a
snack plan, complete the weekly snack form, and post it on the bulletin board
in the kitchen. This is important so the parent
aide knows what to prepare. Bring the snack into the kitchen and label the
food with class specification and date to be served. Place on kitchen counter
in appropriate spot, or in the refrigerator.
*4-Day parents will be given a list of required snack items by the teacher on the Thursday prior to their week.
